This is not possible think of the product away to a neighbor or organization that can use the product. Just be sure that the labels are still intact so that they know exactly what the product is.

If you cannot use the product or give it away, then the key to smart use in disposal of any cleaning product is to be the label and follow directions. If the label gives no specific direction disposal then thinking about how you use the product will help you make the right decision.

For example, water-soluble products which are there is mixed with water for cleaning such as laundry detergent and this washing detergents, multi surface cleaners, bleaches, liquid metal cleaners and polishes, disinfecting cleaners, drain openers, and toilet bowl cleaners can be flushed down the drain with running water. Powders should be disposed of in small quantities at a time so they do not form lumps in the drain.

Solid cleaning products, such as bar soaps, toilet bowl cleaners, and soap scouring pads can be safely disposed of in the trash. So can era salt cans with products still left in them.

Remember, just as you should not mix cleaning products together when using them, you should not mix unused products during disposal.

Cleaning Secrets From the Pros

Did you ever wonder wonder how the professionals manage to get an entire house spotlessly clean in just a short time.  These cleaning tips were submitted by professionals that have been in the cleaning business for a long time. Here are their secrets:

To clean super dusty ceiling fan blades, place a pillow case on each blade and then wipe the top with one hand while the pillow case catches the dust inside. This saves dust from getting all over your floors and furniture.  Fast and easy clean up.

To save a lot of time and be sure not to backtrack or pass over any area of the house to clean – the pros always use a cleaning pattern.  They start from top to bottom and on the left side moving clockwise.

Divide the work between the household members.  Either assign rooms or general cleaning tasks such a dusting or vacuuming.

To get things really squeaky clean, don’t just spray and wipe.  Instead, spray, let soak in while you are working somewhere else in the room, then come back and wipe.  This allows the product time to really work.

Use microfiber cloths for best results.  They don’t just push the dirt around, they actually grab the dust and remove it.  Great news, the are reusable!

To clean like the pros, get a small caddy or bucket to keep your cleaning tools in and carry them with you while you clean. This is great to prevent the issue of not being able to find certain cleaning products or tools and saving time trying to locate them. You know you left it somewhere, right?  🙂

Many people believe the misconception that if a little cleaning product is good, then more is better.  This is not the case. You will end up spending more time trying to remove the extra product before you even begin cleaning.  Save time and money by using your products sparingly.

Happy Cleaning! 🙂

Cleaning with Alka Seltzer – For Real!

Hi guys,

Got a little indigestion?  Maybe some Alka Seltzer will help.  I know you can use Alka Seltzer for a few cleaning jobs.  Check these out.

To clean your thermos – fill with water than drop in 4 Alka Seltzer tablets.  Let soak for an hour – or longer if need be.

Drop 2 Alka Seltzer tablets in a glass of water to clean your jewelry.  Let jewelry soak for 2 minutes.

You can clean your vases with Alka Seltzer also.  Just drop two in a water-filled vase and let their magic work.

You can drop 2 Alka Seltzer tablets in your toilet, wait twenty minutes, then brush and flush.

If you have a clogged drain, you can drop three Alka Seltzer tablets down the drain followed by a cup of white vinegar.  Wait 15 to 20 minutes and then run the hot water.

Three Alka Seltzer tablets in hot water will help clean burnt food on glass bakeware.

Using a solution of a gallon of water and two Alka Seltzer tablets, you can soak your white cotton items in it to whiten and brighten them.

Deodorize your fridge by dropping one Alka Seltzer tablet in a cup of water and letting it bubble and fizz in your refrigerator or 30 minutes or so. If there is still a stubborn lingering odor, use another tablet in water to wash it down.

Give these a try!

Removing Soap Scum

You can keep hard water and soap scum in check by using a towel or sponge that,is soaked in lemon juice. The acidic lemon juice breaks down the build up of soap scum and hard water stains. If you have a lot of build up, you can use a commercial product designed for removal of hard water stains, since these are more aggressive.  You could mix up your own home remedy by making a paste from cream of tarter and hydrogen peroxide.  Spread this paste on stains and build up, allow to dry, buff, and rinse.

Keeping Your Grout Clean

Keeping your tile grout could be such a chore.  It seems to get dirty quickly, especially on your kitchen and bathroom floors.

Here are a few tips to keep that grout looking its best.

First, be sure to seal the grout. Most grout seals wear away within 6 months so resealing every six months or so will help make it easier to maintain.

To seal your grout:  First, purchase the sealant of your choice.  There are many sealants to choose from so be sure to read the lables to choose which is best for you job. Some are just meant for marble or granite, and others for dark tile, etc.

Before you start, clear the room of anything that the sealant could splash onto.

Next, make sure the grout you are about to seal and the tile around it is free from dust and freshly cleaned.

Wear gloves to protect your hands.  Pour the sealant onto a large sponge and then using circular motions, apply the sealant to the grout and tiles.  Start at one corner and work your way down.  Be sure to take notice which tiles you covered.  A good way to keep track of this is to work in sections of three tiles across, then go all the way down.  Then move over three more tiles and repeat.

Be sure to keep your bathroom ventilated.

For the times, when your grout is in need of sealing and you can’t get to it, you can use a little home remedy to keep your grout clean.  Mix 3/4 cup baking soda with 1/4 cup of bleach and scrub it into your grout with a toothbrush.  Then wipe the homemade mixture away with a wet cloth until it is all gone.  You can double this homemade recipe if you have bigger floors.

Happy Cleaning. 🙂

In todays blog entry, I’m going to give you some tips on ways to clean your cutting boards while keeping them in the best shape.

Use an even mixture of 1 tablespoon of baking soda, 1 tablespoon salt, and 1 tablespoon water and  make a paste. Use this paste to scrub your wooden and plastic cutting boards to get them clean.

Never use ordinary household cleaners to clean your butcher block cutting board or countertop. Instead, use a solution of 1 teaspoon bleach diluted with 2 quarts of water.  Use this solution with a brush to clean and disinfect these surfaces.  Use small circles with your brush and be careful not to saturate the wood.  When finished, wipe with a paper towel that is slightly damp and immediately buff dry with a clean cloth.

After cutting meat on your board, it’s important to kill the germs that linger.  First, wipe your board down with vinegar using a paper towel. Then, use another paper towel to wipe it again using hydrogen peroxide. The hydrogen peroxide is an effective germ and bacteria killer.

If your cutting boards are emitting an odor, or you just finished cutting garlic, onions or meat – things that tend to leave behind odors, then use the cut side of a lemon and rub it all over your board or use undiluted lemon juice to wipe it down. This will help sanitize your board while gettig rid of the smell.

After cleaning your cuting boards, rub them with a damp cloth dipped in salt. Your boards will be brighter and lighter in color.

To keep your wood cutting boards or butcher block countertop clean and disinfeced, wipe them, usinfg full strenght vinegar after every use.  The acetic acid in the vinegar is a good disinfectant, effective against such harmful bugs as E. coli, Salmonella, and Staphylococcus.

When your wooden cutting surfaces need both disinfecting and deodorizing, spread a light coating of baking soda over the surface then spray undiluted white vinegar over the baking soda.  Let this foam and bubble for 5 to 10 minutes before rinsing with a cloth dipped in clean, cold water.

Now you should have the cleanest boards in town.

Happy cleaning!
